Back To Your Roots

Over the past few weeks, I have been so busy and distracted that I felt a loss of creativity when I would write.  So last Sunday morning, I felt a need to get back to my roots. I grabbed my pen, journal and my travel mug of coffee, jumped in the 4 runner and headed off to the area where I grew up. There is a bridge I absolutely love not far from where my grandmother and aunts lived.  I used to drive down the old dirt road that lead under the bridge by the river. There was a large rock …

Baby It’s Cold Outside

The seasons are changing.  The days are getting shorter.  The temperature is dropping.  Dorothy, we aren’t in Kansas anymore.  Yes, summer has officially ended and here in Pennsylvania Fall is in full swing. The temperature outside reveals the temperature inside. In the mornings inside the house it feels so cold until we step outside.  We can better feel the warmth inside.  We can be deceived of our current condition.  We can be warm when we thought we were hot or cold when we thought we were warm.  It takes a climate change to reveal the real and truly show us …

The Passion Defined

Since the word “passion” was our topic, I thought I’d jump ahead a bit. There are so many references to the word with its meanings of lust, ardor, desire, etc. But one definition I found was appropriately linked to Jesus’ passion for the world. In Biblical and literary circles, we normally denote “the Passion” as those events beginning with Gethsemane and ending with the Crucifixion, as to the suffering of Christ. Other experts I read concluded that “passion” in the Greek means “to suffer.” It’s also defined as a strong or fervent emotion or feeling; either in the marital or …

Passion and Suffering

Passion… an overwhelming emotion that is desperate for an outlet of expression. We have many examples and definitions of passion in our stories. In my own life I feel passionate about mothering my children in a way that is glorifying to God, protecting them, and ensuring they are kind to others. I feel passionate about encouraging women to own their stories and experience the grace of Christ in their journey. I feel passionate about freedom- spiritual and physical. These passions fuel every aspect of my life because without expressing them I could easily become desperate and overwhelmed. I have found …

The Purest Passion

Passion is one of those words that encompasses many aspects. It can go either way. In one context, it could be really good and in another, it can be really bad. Depending on the person, it can be undefiled or downright wretched. Passion itself isn’t wrong. God is a God of passion. He had a passion to create us. He has a passion for fellowship with us. He has a passion for us to be saved, whole and free. Now, I have all kinds of passions. I live in the South. So of course I have a passion for food. …

Passion for the Hurting

Passion: a noun meaning a strong and barely controllable emotion. What are you passionate about? I believe the area that you are most passionate about is an area that God can use you far beyond anything else. So, what are you most passionate about? What gets you fired up? What keeps you awake at night? When I was thinking about this I thought, “I know exactly what my passion is!” I have a deep passion for hurting women. And the only way I can describe it is to share the reason why. My testimony. It has been a little over …

Passionate Relationship

God reminds me of when my husband and I first met. I was smitten from the start. I had dated but I was not interested in any kind of “passionate relationship”. I just wanted to have fun. But when I fell in love thoughts changed. My desires were suddenly for him and it was inevitable that we would be married, because his thoughts were that way toward me! Thus so with the Lord. I enjoyed the fellowship and fun in church circles but was not so much in love with Jesus. Then He came into my living room and …

Passion for Jesus

As I sat in this very large arena surrounded by thousands of women, I was mesmerized by the words that slapped me in the face. Words so powerful I could not move… words that formed a question that I must answer. I had come to Beth Moore’s Living Proof conference with a group of my church women. We had already attended many of her conferences to hear what the Lord would teach us through Beth’s words. God uses women who are willing and obedient to His leading and Beth is one such woman. He uses her to speak His words …

Burning Passion by Betty Lacy

I wanted to define passion before writing this article. I went straight to the good old Webster’s Dictionary where passion is defined as a strong feeling of enthusiasm or excitement for something or about doing something. I thought this is right on target. Then, my eyes fell just two lines down on yet another definition that surprised me. The full definition of Passion: often capitalized; a: the sufferings of Christ between the night of the Last Supper and His death. This was not the definition about which I wanted to write. I wanted to write about my passion for women’s …

A Passionate Trust

“I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord.” Psalm 40:1–3 (emphasis added) Have you ever been so unsure of your next step that all you know to do is hang on to Jesus and desperately hope that you …
