Never Alone in the Storm

It has been a very stormy night in Arkansas. It began earlier in the day with heavy rains all during the day in the northern half of the state. There is thunder rumbling in the distance even now in the early hours of the new day. Nobody minds a spring thunder storm but this has been an intense amount of weather. It’s gone on for too long and it hasn’t let up yet. It is relentless. Friends have even spent time in their safe places and some are still there at this hour. Thousands are without power. Oh beloved, the …

Hiding and Being Hidden

My grands love to play hide and seek.  When they were younger if they could not see me they thought they were unseen.  Even when half their bodies were out in the open they felt hidden.  After a while they learned to hide better and be even quieter.  It got harder to find them.  And they got more creative in their places to hide.  Inside closets, underneath blankets, beds and behind furniture.  They are good at it. This morning God speaks to our hearts about hiding and being hidden. Oh beloved, you are hidden in Christ!  Your life is a …

God Never Gives Up

As I watched the small video of a daring water rescue of two small children I involuntarily held my breath.  And as I heard a bystander crying out “Jesus give them breath, Jesus help them breathe” I wept.  It was an impossible situation and yet the impossible was accomplished.  Regular ordinary men tore open the submerged upside down car doors and tore open seat belts to get those babies out of that car.  They didn’t care what else happened, they just didn’t give up.  Turns out the two babies were rescued and one is already out of the hospital.  The …

Praise God for His Facts

While visiting with a friend last night I realized they are going through a rough time. The first response to this awful news was to commiserate with them. I felt the panic and pain. We discussed it. I sent prayers upward on their behalf. About halfway through the conversation God spoke to my heart. And I began to talk about God instead of the problem. Faith rose up in me and as I spoke the TRUTH over my friend she too had faith rise up in her. The talk went from wringing of hands to praising the Lord. By …

Persistence

Yesterday we had a visitor in our office. He was there to watch the emergency pesticide video so that he could purchase herbicides for his pasture. This s a simple thing – people come in and watch a power point show for about 2 hours. Easy peasy. Except this time the first computer I sat him at didn’t have a CD player. Then the CD wouldn’t play in any of the computers. And it took 30 minutes to download the program from the website. Finally the gentleman was all set up and could watch the program. I almost told him …

Promotion

It’s the time of year when a group of people in my work organization apply for promotions in rank. It’s a daunting task because you really have to prove your worthiness on paper to merit this promotion. Not everyone who applies will get promoted. Still many will apply because of the increased benefits if the promotion comes through. Everyone who applies waits to see what their letter will say. Some are elated and others are disappointed. Oh beloved, God wants you to know this morning that in the world of faith it’s promotion time! Unlike this world’s plans, you don’t …

Pursuit

I grew up in a home where the world stopped for sports. It was tedious living during football especially. Men ate Thanksgiving dinner in front of that televised game. They pursued their teams with their whole hearts. It was all or nothing. God reminds me this morning that there are many pursuits that put joy in the hearts of people. None so much as pursuit of Him. Oh beloved, your Champion wants you to know this morning that He takes delight in having you on His team. He knows all the pursuits that call your name. He says there is …

Power

Storms rolled through our state recently. It reminds me that as a teenager we lived in a town where the electricity almost always went out when stormy weather came. My dad would use his huge flashlight (didn’t all dads have huge silver flashlights back then?) and mother would bring out the kerosene lanterns. We’d sit together in the darkened living room. Pretty soon we’d be singing old hymns and having wonderful conversations about life. By the time the lights would come back on we’d be sorry they did because it had been such an intimate wonderful time together. Oh beloved, …

Possible Out of Impossible

God loves impossible situations. My first experience with a computer was to have one put on my desk at a new job. I knew how to type and do basic office work but I had never used a computer. In order to be successful at this job I was going to have to do something I’d never done before. I didn’t run from the unknown, I just attempted to go forward. As God had opened the door I went through it. Scared, unsure and wondering I called upon the Holy Spirit to help me. It was an impossible situation, but …

Worn Out Getting Ready for the Day? Rest in Him!

Wow, just a few more days till Christmas!  If you’re like me, there are still quite a few things to do to get ready for the day.  I keep thinking I need to add an arrangement to a table, an ornament to the tree, a package underneath or another string of lights outside.  Most of us, if truth be told, have lots more Christmas ideas than days left to accomplish them!  I find that right about now, I begin to lose ground between my ideas and plans and daylight hours. I also find that I am getting tired.  It’s a …

Let All the Boxes Be Emptied!

I got a text from our oldest daughter last night. She had three more boxes of Christmas decorations to put out around her house. She said “if it doesn’t get put out tonight, it’s not getting put out at all”. It was her way of saying she was done. It always seems to take longer and longer to get everything out and set up. She also laughed that she was getting forgetful because she had found several things that she had not remembered having. I can relate. I open up the Christmas storage boxes and am so excited when I …

Decorate Your Heart With God’s Light

Inside my house are the warm colors of Christmas. I love reds and golds and shiny lights. I enjoy the many angels I’ve collected along the way as well as the nativity scenes both large and small. I like the Scripture verses framed and carved into wood. We also have a wall of crosses that stay there all year long and in the middle of that wall is our family name, surrounded by the crosses. I would say our house is warm and cozy inside. Outside though it’s dark and gloomy and drippy. It’s not that welcoming. The outdoor Christmas …
