Don’t Let Christmas Become a Cartoon

We watched an old Christmas cartoon with our grandkids the other night. It was a classic with Mickey, Pluto and the two chipmunks. The chipmunks were wreaking havoc with the Christmas tree and Pluto was doing his best to guard it. In the end Pluto was frustrated and just went after those two little trouble makers and the tree was completely wrecked! And Pluto was blamed for it all. Somebody wants to wreak havoc on your Christmas. There are situations going on that you feel you have no control over. Trouble is brewing and you’re trying to decide if you …

Don’t You Just Love Your Gift?

We hosted the Christmas party for a local motorcycle ministry one year. As part of the festivities everyone brought gifts to exchange. We played “dirty santa”. As each person opened a gift the next gift recipient could either pick a new gift or steal one from someone who’d already opened it. It got pretty funny as there was a lot of gift wrangling going on! The night ended with lots of laughter and fellowship. Everyone went away a winner, but not everyone kept their own gift. It was light-hearted fun though as no one got upset when their gift was stolen. …

Tis The Season To Remember the Reason

The first Christmas that Danny and I were dating he went home to see his dad and other family for Christmas. We had not known each other very long but oh how I missed him. I had already given him my heart. We’ve had over 40 Christmases together now. We still can’t think of another person we’d rather spend the holidays with than one another. Except for Jesus. For those of us who have given our hearts to Jesus we are like that. We can’t stand to be apart from our Lord. We’ve given Him everything and we have nowhere …

Thanksgiving!

As I wondered out loud to the Lord what I might have, if anything, for me to share about giving, He reminded me about a situation we encountered while on a motorcycle in Houston Texas. So here’s the story. Quite a few years ago I won a chance to compete in a shrimp eating contest in Houston. After entering my short message on “Why I am the best seafood lover in the south” they picked me! We decided that we didn’t want to fly we wanted to ride the motorcycle. In the middle of July no less, we did just …

Jesus is the Life Changer: Day 1

God Works From the Inside Out I remember as a teenager feeling the need to change clothes three or four times before a date. I remember stressing over hair that wouldn’t behave and makeup that wouldn’t straighten up. All this was a struggle for one who at the time felt that I wasn’t pretty enough, thin enough or short enough. My five foot ten inch body was great, but I didn’t know it. I was constantly hoping I would fit in to what the standards of the day were. One day Christ came into my heart. I was 26 years …

Jesus is the Life Changer: Day 2

Don’t Try to Fit In – Learn to Stand Out! I remember how important it was to have the same kind of clothes everyone else had. As I looked at a 50’s photo this morning I see a row of girls sitting with their feet crossed. Every one of them had saddle shoes and white socks. I remember those days. I remember that not every girl in class had what everyone else had. Back in my pre teen years we all wanted to look like Twiggy. She was known for her waiflike look consisting of skinny build, large eyes, long eyelashes, and …

Jesus is the Life Changer: Day 3

Healed from Heart Trouble When I met Christ I had lots of presuppositions. I had already been teaching Sunday School and working in Bible School, along with singing in the choir and playing the organ at church. I got married in church as well. We even had communion at our wedding. I had even gone so far as to pick a wedding invitation with a Scripture on the front, “Whither thou goest I will go…” But all this time my heart was sick. It beat only for myself. It had such issues that it was in death throes. Try as …

Jesus is the Life Changer: Day 4

Getting Fit for the Kingdom – The Best Exercise Exercise is not my favorite thing. I am reminded of a young woman in our town who worked on the torturous stepping machine at the local health club right up until she gave birth to her triplets! That’s right she had already had an exercise regimen that included this arduous task, so it wasn’t hard for her to continue it. Oh beloved, God has an exercise program fit just for you! Right now you may feel totally exhausted. There’s no way you can fix this condition in the natural. Your strength …

Jesus is the Life Changer: Day 5

Gardening and Life – Both Have to Be Worked Gardening is high on the subject of farmers and homemakers alike. It’s time to till the soil. It’s time to break up that fallow ground and remove the clods and make the soil ready for the seeds and the plants. Without working the ground, you’d never make a garden worth having. Try putting seeds out on flat untilled ground. The birds will swoop in and take most of the seeds. If there are any left, they might germinate but they won’t be strong enough to flower or be fruitful. Oh beloved, …

Jesus is the Life Changer: Day 6

I’m Now on Life Support As a teenager I wanted a car. But my parents, frugal and retired, didn’t even talk about getting me one. I drove around with friends. I could borrow mom’s car occasionally but she needed it for work. Not until I was married did I have my own car. Even then it was because my husband supported me and let me drive the car he owned. You could say I was on life support. Who’s driving your car? Whose support are you living by? The Lord knows all that you are dealing with, what all you …

Housekeeping Day 6

Wouldn’t it be great if the house stayed clean? We thought after our three teenagers grew wings and left that we’d surely be clean all the time! LOL But we find that cleaning house is a continual thing. Sometimes it’s a real chore, other times it’s just light work. But it has to be repeatedly done. Oh beloved, don’t worry! Just because you’ve read about Housekeeping and you think you’ve got it down. You may mess up along the way, but God’s got this for you! He’s on your side on matter what and He’s going along with you always …

Housekeeping Day 5

One thing that I just have to clean often are my mirrors. Especially the ones in the bathrooms. Each day as we wash our faces, brush our teeth, put on hair spray and even cologne, a mirror seems to be a magnet for stuff. Oh beloved, are you confused? Have you been concentrating on your imperfections? The little spots in the mirror of your life that seem to hang there and cause you trouble? It’s time to clean the mirrors of your mind and remind yourself that God sees you through the mirror of His Word!  Yes, you have imperfections, …
