Truly Valuable

When we watch Antiques Roadshow we almost hold our breath. There’s this feeling that one of these days an item our parents had owned will show up and be worth much money. We laugh whenever we get to watch it, which is rare, but still we enjoy it. It’s amazing how some people come in with an item that looks like nothing. But after it’s appraised – it is truly a collectible of great worth! You hear phrases like “bought at a yard sale for a dollar” or “found it in parents attic”. The amazing thing about how God places …

Those Gifts!

Every gift our 6 year old granddaughter received was her favorite! As each package was opened she remarked that she adored it, it was wonderful, it was something she always wanted. Once she opened it and said “I love it!” And then she said “What is it?” We all laughed. She lit up the room with her praise and thankfulness. She did receive things she had asked for, but other gifts were things she hadn’t thought about. Nevertheless she loved them all. Everything that came to her was unwrapped and enjoyed. Her joyfulness was contagious and sincere. Let’s face it. …

Rounding the Bases of Life

Our 7 year old grandson made a home run last night. It was a stop and go sort of run. He made it to first base and the other team overthrew the ball so his coach urged him to keep going. Then he rounded second and headed for third. He almost got tagged by a player and ran back towards second. Again the reprieve of an overthrown ball and he went on to third after all. Finally, the coach and the parents too urged him to run on home. He was elated! We all hollered his name out loud as …

Big Fight – Bigger Winner!

Our son and I had a big fight yesterday morning. It was a knock down drag out. Thankfully we were fighting together against an enemy my son has – a wasp.  He’s very allergic to stings so it was almost comical as we ran around the house batting at this nemesis and even knocking something off the wall.  He fell in the floor once avoiding the dive bombing of this evil little flyer.  Finally, after we had exhausted all efforts I found him sitting on the floor and disposed of him once and for all. Oh beloved, you and I …

Somebody Prayed

As a little girl I was not exposed to church much. My parents didn’t attend.  But one of my earliest recollections of church was with a baby sitter.  I spent the night with her and her children and she went to church.  So the next morning being Sunday I went with them. I don’t remember much about the service except the altar.  When this sweet dear Christian lady went down to the altar to pray I went too.  When she knelt I knelt. It just seemed natural to follow her lead.  I feel the Lord saying to me that she …

Ancestry of Faith

There is this fascination with knowing my ancestors that results from never really knowing anything about anyone beyond my grandfather Warren.  So imagine my delight when I recently found a family tree with Warrens several generations back!  Not only that, I found a very distant living cousin as well.  I still don’t know about those who came before me.  I just know their names.  I could spend much time trying to glean more information but I’m quite happy to know that my grandfather had a grandfather and I know his name.  I don’t know them – but I know something …

Never Alone in the Storm

It has been a very stormy night in Arkansas. It began earlier in the day with heavy rains all during the day in the northern half of the state. There is thunder rumbling in the distance even now in the early hours of the new day. Nobody minds a spring thunder storm but this has been an intense amount of weather. It’s gone on for too long and it hasn’t let up yet. It is relentless. Friends have even spent time in their safe places and some are still there at this hour. Thousands are without power. Oh beloved, the …

Hiding and Being Hidden

My grands love to play hide and seek.  When they were younger if they could not see me they thought they were unseen.  Even when half their bodies were out in the open they felt hidden.  After a while they learned to hide better and be even quieter.  It got harder to find them.  And they got more creative in their places to hide.  Inside closets, underneath blankets, beds and behind furniture.  They are good at it. This morning God speaks to our hearts about hiding and being hidden. Oh beloved, you are hidden in Christ!  Your life is a …

God Never Gives Up

As I watched the small video of a daring water rescue of two small children I involuntarily held my breath.  And as I heard a bystander crying out “Jesus give them breath, Jesus help them breathe” I wept.  It was an impossible situation and yet the impossible was accomplished.  Regular ordinary men tore open the submerged upside down car doors and tore open seat belts to get those babies out of that car.  They didn’t care what else happened, they just didn’t give up.  Turns out the two babies were rescued and one is already out of the hospital.  The …

Praise God for His Facts

While visiting with a friend last night I realized they are going through a rough time. The first response to this awful news was to commiserate with them. I felt the panic and pain. We discussed it. I sent prayers upward on their behalf. About halfway through the conversation God spoke to my heart. And I began to talk about God instead of the problem. Faith rose up in me and as I spoke the TRUTH over my friend she too had faith rise up in her. The talk went from wringing of hands to praising the Lord. By …

Persistence

Yesterday we had a visitor in our office. He was there to watch the emergency pesticide video so that he could purchase herbicides for his pasture. This s a simple thing – people come in and watch a power point show for about 2 hours. Easy peasy. Except this time the first computer I sat him at didn’t have a CD player. Then the CD wouldn’t play in any of the computers. And it took 30 minutes to download the program from the website. Finally the gentleman was all set up and could watch the program. I almost told him …

Promotion

It’s the time of year when a group of people in my work organization apply for promotions in rank. It’s a daunting task because you really have to prove your worthiness on paper to merit this promotion. Not everyone who applies will get promoted. Still many will apply because of the increased benefits if the promotion comes through. Everyone who applies waits to see what their letter will say. Some are elated and others are disappointed. Oh beloved, God wants you to know this morning that in the world of faith it’s promotion time! Unlike this world’s plans, you don’t …
