Phoebe, Lydia and Claudia

Women of Strength Phoebe, Lydia, and Claudia As the new religion we now call Christianity spread throughout the Mediterranean region, Gentiles as well as Jews found comfort and meaning in the teachings of Jesus. Thanks to Paul and a few others, new churches were being founded in non-Jewish countries. Home churches were established first. A small group of like-minded people would gather to hear the Good News. Breaking Barriers

On this day headlines are something that really caught my eye this morning. The first from October 11, 1947 was about Chuck Yeager, who became the first person to pass the speed of sound while flying the experimental Bell X-1 plane at an altitude of about 43,000 feet, going 700 miles an hour. My oldest nephew and his sweetie went on a ski trip. Her words at the end of the trip went like this, “What was I thinking? That I could take up two slim sticks, and slide real fast down a mountain and not have problems?” That’s after her injury was looked at again by a physician at home. Don’t we often have the same attitude of our walk with God? “What was I thinking? I accepted Christ and thought I could just slide through life and right into heaven’s doors. No problems?” Oh beloved, this walk of faith is not …

Panic or Promise?

One of our sons in law got his first turkey yesterday. It’s not turkey season. But that old bird flew out of nowhere and smack into his windshield. It landed with such force that he almost broke through the windshield. Unexpected. Out of nowhere. Boom! Life is like that. We’re traveling along enjoying life. And suddenly, out of nowhere, something hits us with such a force. We want to dodge, we try to avoid, but life happens and shatters right in front of us. No one is immune from the possibility of it. So what do we do when disaster …
