Going Deep With God

The title of this series of devotions is, “Going Deep”.  In the next six days we will be looking at ways to go deep with our God.  We will discuss how to go deep in the Word, in trusting God, in obedience, in God’s understanding, and in prayer.  I pray this series blesses you and draws you ever nearer to the heart of our Father. In Psalm 107 we read of those who are called out upon the waters, to the ships.  Those who are called to these places and are willing to go get to see the great works …

Going Deep in The Word

Today we will be discussing going deep in the Word of God. Let’s start by defining the word deep. The definition of deep is to extend far down from the surface. The opposite of deep is shallow and means to stay on the surface.  What does it mean to go deep in the Word of God?  How do we do that?  And why would we? To go deep in the Bible means that we don’t stay on the surface.  We aren’t satisfied to skim the top or stay in the shallows…but rather we want to go into the depths of …

Going Deep in Trust

Today we are going to discuss going deep in trusting the Lord. It’s easy to trust when we can see the path ahead. It’s easy to step out into something that is known. But, what about the unknown? It’s not so easy to trust when you have no idea what you are moving into. When you don’t know where your path will lead. But this is exactly what the Lord is calling us to do. Proverbs 3: 5 tells us to, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart.” And in Jeremiah 17: 7 we read, “Blessed is the man …

Going Deeper in Obedience

Today we will be discussing going deeper in obedience to God.  The definition of obedience is to be compliant with an order or request.  It is simply doing what is asked of us.  How does God ask us to do things? He asks through the Bible, through authority figures, through the law, and through us listening for Him. There have been times when I didn’t want to be obedient. Such as when we had first become believers and I read in the Bible that I needed to submit to my husband. What? I didn’t want to do that.  But, …

Going Deeper in God’s Understanding

Today we will be discussing going deeper into God’s understanding. This means that we will not lean upon our own understanding, but rather on God’s.  There are times when God calls us to go against man’s understanding. These are places where what we are doing makes no sense to “man”.  Many years ago now, I graduated with a degree in radiologic science (I took x-rays).  I loved my job and enjoyed serving the patients. But, I had a greater desire than serving my patients. God had placed a desire within me to be home with my baby. And so, I …

Going Deep in Prayer

Today we will be discussing going deep in prayer. Prayer is our communication with God. In 1 Thessalonians 5: 16 we are told to, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” We are to pray without ceasing or all the time. Our conversation with God should start when we awake and continue until we go to bed. I get up at 5: 30. The first thing out of my mouth is, “Good morning, Father.” This begins my conversation with the Lord for that day. This type …
