Are You Running From What is Right

If you’re a Christian, you probably know about the story of Jonah in the Bible. You know, the guy who gets swallowed up by a large fish? Well, you also know that this was no coincidence that this happened. God was trying to get Jonah’s attention. You think He did what He was set out to do? I think so. You see, Jonah knew what was right. He knew where God told him to go, but he ran from it, and you see the trouble he got in by not listening to God. This happens to a lot of …

We Can Trust Him When We Step Out in Faith

The other morning I felt the urge to go on a walk outside, but I took one look outside and decided that was a bad idea.  In fact, I had reasonable justification not to go.  1. It was foggy; I wouldn’t be able to see.  2. It was cold; I hate the cold.  3. I didn’t get very much sleep last night; I’m tired.  However, the feeling was so strong that I decided to get on my winter workout clothes and go.  I got my music ready, mustered up the courage, took one step outside, and turned around, …

We Can Trust Him On Our Journey

I’ll never forget climbing the steep, rocky mountainsides of Petra… on a mule!! If you’re unfamiliar, Petra is an ancient city in Jordan that dates back to 300BC.  It is one of the world’s wonders as it used to be a thriving civilization.  Everything there is carved in rocks that are about 600ft tall.  Houses, temples, amphitheaters are all carved into rocks.  Perhaps the most recognizable site in Petra is The Treasury.  Most of you have probably seen this in the movie “Indiana Jones.”   The treasury is 130 ft tall, and the rocks surrounding The Treasury are about …

Faith Not Tested

Faith that has not been tested is faith that cannot be trusted. If you’ve been a Christian more than 24 hours, then you can’t deny that your faith has already been tested. Moments after my conversion to Christ, the devil was trying to tell me, “that didn’t work, you’re not saved.” Testing our faith is one way that God determines our authenticity. God knows our heart already, He just wants to bring it out in our character. I’ve had my faith tested many many times over the years. Most of the time I failed the …

Life’s Storms

The I 30 corridor…not a pleasant phrase when the storms are kicking through in East Texas. I watched them all day yesterday, first one tornado warning and then another. It was the positioning of the storms that gave me pause. So often in the past those East Texas storms would fly up the interstate and cause us problems in Arkansas. At one point I got a text from a precious cousin, whose daughter and husband were on their way to a storm shelter near Texarkana. We prayed together via text and asked God to watch over them. Finally, the storms …

Hello From the Pit

Have you ever felt like you had been thrown into a lion’s den knowing the lions were hungry and ready to eat? Be honest, I’m sure you have felt that way at one point in time.  I know I have.  Matter of fact, I feel like I live down there with the lions a lot of times. Every day, I wake up surprised to still be alive but at the same time in awe of my Savior that continues to shut the lion’s mouth.  That doesn’t mean that it is not a nasty place to be.  Imagine, living there among the bones, …

Anchor of Trust

With our new internet we decided to try tv as well. We have been off the grid with regular channels for quite a few years. Now I love getting to watch home remodeling and such again. But some of those channels now have programs that we just have to avoid. Things have changed on tv. Things are changing in the world as well. But we can’t give up, can we? Just as we pray for our loved ones and friends, so too we keep praying for our country, our leaders and those who wish to destroy our godly heritage. It’s …

Your Source

My wonderful husband takes such good care of me. He made it so my feet would be warm at night. He placed our electric mattress pad on the bed for me. I turned it on and wow it was nice. The next night I thought I turned it on again, only it was just the small heating pad lying on the floor beside the bed. Well the spot on the carpet was warm but not my feet! Finally after turning things off and on and not feeling warm at all I realized something. The heating mattress pad was not on …

What About That Mountain?

We went up on the mountain this past weekend. The first time my husband took me on the Talimena Scenic Drive was back in 1973 and it was on a gold Honda motorcycle. I should say attempted, because back then there were no trees lining the ride up. It was not so pleasant and finally I asked him to please turn around. We didn’t make it all the way to the lodge then. The next attempt was later and it was some easier for me. Finally, after all these years, it’s a piece of cake. We know that road like …

Woman of Great Worth

Books, especially historical fiction, are one of my favorites.  Back when I had lots of free time it was nothing for me to read a book or two a week.  This morning one of my favorites comes to mind, Follow The River.  It is the story of a 23-year-old pioneer woman who was taken by Indians from her home in 1755.  Somehow she managed to escape and walk 1000 miles along the Alleghany River back to her home.  She made it, though she faced much peril and hardship.  When she arrived home, her hair was totally white. God speaks to …

God’s Direction

My husband and I have a running “funny” between us. It’s actually between more than just the two of us anymore because I’ve shared it with friends. It’s like this for instance: He tells me to go left but I am absolutely sure we should go right. Now I can argue that he’s wrong and I’m right, but the fact is and here’s the long running “funny” – he’s always right. Now listen y’all when it comes to directions I’m turned around coming out of the doctor’s office. And then today. Had lunch with a friend. She wanted to …

No Brakes No Steering

Danny decided our car needed washing, so we pulled in to one of the newest ones while we were in a nearby town. This one was different than any I’ve ever seen. You pull up, choose your wash, pay the money and then you put your car in neutral, take your hands off the steering wheel and remove your foot from the brake. It then compels you forward and take you through the entire wash by itself. It sure felt weird neither to steer nor to put on the brakes. But when we were through we drove out the …
