God Gives Evidence

We have enjoyed what has been a pretty mild summer so far. No temps over 100 degrees yet at all. I like that. I could do without the usual soaring thermometer readings altogether. But the weather people are saying this week is going to be tipping if not over 100. I’m glad that those in charge of weather reporting can warn us when a storm is brewing, when a hurricane is forming and when the temps will soar. We can be prepared at least somewhat. Or can we? Oh beloved, don’t hold your breath for everything you have heard to …

When You Believe and Know the Truth of God

When you believe and know the truth of God, it changes everything. I’m a worrier. There are times that trouble overwhelms me and fills my mind with grief. I used to let it consume me until I couldn’t take it anymore. The only way I got through and will get through these discouraging times, is God. Now when worry is looming, the first thing I do is ask God for help. It’s true, my friends. When you face uncertainty, trust God. He can handle anything that comes our way. 2 Corinthians 5:17 – “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the …

Ctrl-Alt-Del

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. (Philippians 4:8 ESV)   I am sure we can all agree that there is so much negativity going on in this world right now. Everywhere you turn, everywhere you read, it can be hard to escape and this morning especially as I felt the heaviness of the consequences of evil, I needed a word and a reminder on what to focus on during this …

Drive Home Gods Truth

The Amphicar comes to mind. Made in the 60’s it was both a highway driver and a boat. This boat car’s original price wasn’t that expensive, but they now have been known to sell at auction in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Oh beloved, why did God bring this strange vehicle to mind? Because He wants to “drive home” truth. You are worth more than you can imagine to Him. When He rebuilt you – being born again – He made you to navigate all circumstances of life. Neither you nor I are meant to be sunk by life’s …

Scam Proof Living

We got a call Sunday from a “census worker”. She said she was calling to confirm our address. Since it was a cell phone from northwest Arkansas and knowing I’d completed the census online months ago, I politely declined and hung up on her. It’s amazing the scams that are going around these days. Oh beloved, the enemy loves to scam people. He pretends to be in the know. He shares his knowledge with whoever will listen. Trouble is he is a lying liar. It’s his nature to lie, cheat and steal. His scams are the same types over and …

Jesus The Way, The Truth and The Life

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6   This verse may be familiar to many of us. The phrase, “…the way and the truth and the life” may easily roll off our tongues, because we have heard it quoted many times. We may have committed it to memory if we grew up in Sunday School or Awana. We may be struck by the combination of these three descriptors: way, truth, life. These are an interesting combination. As we focus on the words individually, it prompts us to …

Don’t Just Study Truth; Walk In Truth

I’ve read where there are people who are living two separate lives. Even going to the point where they have two spouses in two different states. Sounds exhausting, let alone illegal. But, still there are Christians among us who are living two lives. They may profess to be a Christian, and it looks like they go to Church on Sunday, and they don’t cause any trouble. Yet, if you ask them anything about the Bible or their walk with God, they will look at you like a deer in headlights. And, even though you, as a Christian, may be …

It’s My life; No, It’s My Lie

Grocery shopping has been on my attention list for about six weeks now. Sounds strange does it not? We have a family of five/six on the weekends and four during the week.  How can it be that grocery shopping is not completed. Before the dial to the hot line, our children are fed and watered. The Friendship Mall has filled in the gaps, General Mills stock has jumped, and my pizza app is racking in the points. I am certain this sounds oh so familiar with many parents. It’s what many of us refer to as “just life with kids”.  …

Out Of The Shallows

Not long ago I dreamed that we took visiting friends to the lake. When we arrived at the lodge we could see a bit of water that wasn’t very deep and lots of people swimming. They were not very impressed. “Is this all there is?” I told them the area we were at was just the tip of the iceberg. If they’d get out in the water and look beyond the swimming area, they’d see the expanse of the beautiful lake and be amazed. Oh beloved, truth is we often don’t go beyond the swimming area do we? We are …

Think What is True

Always Express Positive Thoughts Scripture: Philippians 3: 8-9b “Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on these on these things—practice these things and the God of peace will be with you.” During modern times we are bombarded with tragic news, and scarcely do we hear news that is uplifting and encouraging. Though we are living in times like Jesus said would happen before He returns for His Bride, we need to hear some encouraging words. We hear of false ways to find peace and …

Think on Things Worthy of Praise

Paul ended this admonishment by saying if anything worthy of praise, to think about these things. Many believers are prone to look for weaknesses and sins of their sisters and brothers and dwell on them. Have you ever seen any person about whom it was possible to say something positive? Perhaps that is because we like to nit pick and look for the negative rather than positive characteristics in others, or while in the midst of adversities fail to find something about which to praise God? I remember while enduring illnesses, living in a rehabilitation center, and then while restricted to an upstairs apartment, God continues …

Think and Live Commendable Lives

Some parents don’t set worthy examples for their children to follow and expect them not to live as they do but as told to live. That is not a commendable way for parents to raise children. It isn’t always true, but most children imitate the lifestyle to which they are familiar. And it is admirable to have commendable thoughts, but those thoughts need to be put into daily living. I remember before becoming a parent, my desire was to be a perfect mother, but when faced with some challenges of motherhood, I was far from a perfect mother. Though God knows none of us will be perfect …
