Battle Between Flesh and Spirit

Paul did not understand the war being waged in his heart after his dramatic experience on the road to Damascus. He wrote: “For we know the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh sold under sin. For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not want., I agree with the law it is good. So it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is in my flesh. For …

Victorious

After writing about Jesus appearing to others, Paul said He appeared to him, the least of His apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle because he persecuted the church of God. Then he wrote by the grace of God he became victorious. Do you feel like the least of God’s children? I do, but am thankful He loved me and allowed His Son to die on the old rugged cross to pay my sin debt. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son to die for my sins. So at salvation I became one of God’s adopted children. My husband and I …

Ever Been Stung?

When she was about two years old, our oldest daughter picked up a bumblebee that was on her swing set. She held it in the palm of her hand and even kissed it! It all happened so quickly that I knocked the bee out of her hand and grabbed her up. Nobody wants anything like that to happen to their babies! Especially when you know what it feels like to get stung. You avoid that as best you can. Oh beloved, when it comes to being stung, you know about it. You’ve experienced the sting of rejection, the bite of betrayal …

What Do You Believe

What do you believe when it all comes down?   I was put to the test with this very thing.   The plans were set and off we flew to Colorado with some friends. We were set to spend the next four days horseback riding, sightseeing, checking out the hot springs and taking a motorcycle ride. Sounds like fun doesn’t it? Oh, we were excited and everything just felt right. Back home we even had a realtor preparing to present a bid for the home of our dreams. Life was just good. The first night in town, we headed over …

I Am An Overcomer

As I sat for 20 minutes today and I felt led to read 1 John 5. As I began to read I was stopped on verses 4 & 5. “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world….our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world but he who believes that Jesus is the son of God?” All I saw was I AM AN OVERCOMER!! Yes one more step in understanding that I am born of God and my victory is that I overcome the world through my faith in Jesus. …

Trials Make The Believer More Beautiful

As I went into the store to pick up a couple of rotisserie chickens I saw two friends who are sisters visiting. I laughingly said, Hey ladies, blocking the aisle!” They turned and we laughed and hugged. One of the sisters had cancer a few years ago and she is a survivor. As I hugged her I looked and told her that she looks so young. She said sure and we laughed again. But I looked in her face again and truly she looks younger than she did before she went through her trial. God spoke to my heart: When …

God’s Word

Yesterday two things happened to acquaintances that just floored me. One received a text meant for another person. It was rude and maligning about the person who received the text. Oh my. The other person was supposed to be on hold but it didn’t work, so they heard the diatribe about themselves over the phone line. Oh beloved, you are so special to the Lord. It might be that you’ve been through this type of situation. It could have been recently or on the playground or the party line many years ago. It still hurts. You may not have ever …

Victory at The Nativity

I love nativities, so when Danny found another one we had purchased on an after Christmas sale I was thrilled. I knew the grands would enjoy putting it together because it was made like LEGO’s. When they came over they were indeed excited. The box showed what it would look like and they opened it up and began to work. The only problem was the size. The pieces to this nativity were so tiny! Not regular LEGO size but so small pieces fell down into the carpet. It wasn’t going to be easy at all. It was rather complicated. They …

Victory

Victory     We celebrated Memorial Day in rehab hospital. It reminded me that my dad was a highly decorated war veteran. Both world wars saw him in the line of duty. He was enlisted and sent overseas both times. He had some battle scars but his valiant fighting gave him rewards. My husband has been enlisted and so have I. He did not choose this battle but he has fought valiantly. And he is victorious. Oh beloved you didn’t choose the battle but you are in it. Everything the enemy could throw at you he has. You …

Rest

What if rehab was just a place to rest? What if nothing were done to help the patient heal or regain their strength? It would be a nice place but would that be helpful? Danny needed lots of rest and still does. But it’s the combination of things that is bringing about real change and total healing. Oh beloved God hears your cry for rest. He has seen your plight and He knows your heart. He also knows that you are in a battle for your very life. The enemy has pulled out all his plans and has executed them …

Rounding the Bases of Life

Our 7 year old grandson made a home run last night. It was a stop and go sort of run. He made it to first base and the other team overthrew the ball so his coach urged him to keep going. Then he rounded second and headed for third. He almost got tagged by a player and ran back towards second. Again the reprieve of an overthrown ball and he went on to third after all. Finally, the coach and the parents too urged him to run on home. He was elated! We all hollered his name out loud as …

He Is Victorious

“I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John [16:33] Spiritual warfare has been a heavy topic for me to write about. However, it has been encouraging to see the thread of victory and redemption God has woven into Scripture. Jesus Himself said He has overcome the world! He has the ultimate victory. That should give us so much hope and joy. Of course it’s easy for me to write that. Living it out is a lot more challenging. …
