Woman of Great Worth

Books, especially historical fiction, are one of my favorites.  Back when I had lots of free time it was nothing for me to read a book or two a week.  This morning one of my favorites comes to mind, Follow The River.  It is the story of a 23-year-old pioneer woman who was taken by Indians from her home in 1755.  Somehow she managed to escape and walk 1000 miles along the Alleghany River back to her home.  She made it, though she faced much peril and hardship.  When she arrived home, her hair was totally white. Great Expectations

When I was a girl my dad had great expectations for me. I sang with Dinah Shore when her show aired. I danced with Lawrence Welk dancers. I dressed up when Sing Along with Mitch Miller was on. He thought surely I’d be famous. Maybe even Carnegie Hall was not too far fetched a place I’d go. We all have our ideas of what success looks like for our children.
