The Gifts

ADVENT – The Gifts

God arranged the greatest celebration when he sent his son, Jesus, into the world and promised he would come again. How do you take part in the festivities?

Are you like Zechariah, the Jewish priest? He was invited to the party. An angel of God told him that he would have a son who would announce the Messiah to the world. Zechariah doubted at first.

Are you like his wife, Elizabeth? She was invited to the party. She excitedly participated as she mentored Mary, the mother of Jesus.

Perhaps you are like Simeon. He was invited, too, and waited eagerly for the Messiah, who would rescue him. God answered his prayer and he saw God, the Son, in living flesh.

Hopefully, you are like Anna. While she waited for the party, she devoted herself to God, worshipping him day and night, and trusting him to take care of all her needs.

What a celebration! It’s a blessing to be reminded of all that God has gifted us with. Hope. Peace. Joy. Love.

Whatever season of life you’re in, I pray that you eagerly accept God’s gifts. If you’re having difficulties receiving them, just ask. God wants to have a conversation with you today.

Jesus died on the cross for everyone, paying the death penalty required because of sin. But, he defeated death and rose from the grave so you and I can have the opportunity for eternal life in a place called heaven, free from hurt and uncertainty. We receive that right and become God’s child when we believe him and accept Jesus as Lord. This is the greatest gift of all.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Romans 6: 23 NLT

Make a point to be in the midst of the chaotic, commercialized, celebration. As a Christ-Follower, share your time, a broad smile, and a hug. Don’t forget to tell others how important Christmas is. We return blessings to God when we commemorate the birth of our Savior and celebrate in anticipation his second coming to gather God’s children.

God sent his Son, Jesus. He is coming again, soon.

God sent a star to light our way. Celebrate and share hope.

God’s heavenly hosts cried out. Celebrate and share peace.

God’s gift is eternal life. Celebrate and share joy.

God’s gift is available to all. Celebrate and share love.

God sent his Son, Jesus. He is coming again, soon.

Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going.”

John 14: 1-3 NLT
