The first Christmas that Danny and I were dating he went home to see his dad and other family for Christmas. We had not known each other very long but oh how I missed him. I had already given him my heart. We’ve had over 40 Christmases together now. We still can’t think of another person we’d rather spend the holidays with than one another. Except for Jesus.
For those of us who have given our hearts to Jesus we are like that. We can’t stand to be apart from our Lord. We’ve given Him everything and we have nowhere else we’d rather be than in His presence. Thankfully He has promised to stay with us forever. His gifts keep giving and our hearts keep growing more loving, grateful and responsive. This love is forever as God wipes our slates clean and blesses us with salvation, sanctification, justification and more – joy, love, peace and all those wonderful gifts that are ours simply for the believing.
Oh beloved, this morning I wish you the best Christmas ever! I know many of you have burdened, wounded, and grieving hearts. Let God heal you, let God love you. Let God become the true Spirit of your Christmas and every single day of the year. All you need is found in Christ. If you feel impatient, irritable, bitter, discouraged or frantic, it’s time to let God tend to your soul. If the room of your heart has gotten overcrowded with all the things that seek to wear you out and tie you down you can always make room for Jesus. He knows all about your troubles, your envies, your questions and your sorrows and yet He loves you just the same. And He always and forever comes to you with love songs to heal you when you suffer the most, no matter what and to set you free from anything that may seek to burden your heart and mind.
God loves you and He’s for you. Focus this day on the ultimate gift – His love for you. As you find your quiet moment and get lost in His love you will find that you are more joyful, fully comforted and more able to meet the needs of the day – not just on Christmas but all through the year. The Babe in the manger was is and always will be the King of your heart and the answer to all your dreams.
