Two on the Way to Emmaus

Luke 24: 13-19 “That day two men were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles fromJerusalem. And they were discussing all that had happened, and while they talked,Jesus drew near and walked with them, but their eyes kept them from recognizing Him. When Jesus asked about their conversation, the man named Cleopas answered Him, ” Are you the only visitor in Jerusalem who does not know about the things which have occurred during the past few days? Jesus said, “What things?”

Then they tried to explain all the latest events, and the day was almost over; so they invited Jesus to remain with them. After their eyes were opened and they knew he was Jesus. They responded by showing hospitality to Him. And we should do the same as admonished in these verses:

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him and he with me.” Revelation 3: 20.

Though currently Jesus does not appear to us in bodily form, He is ever present, and it must grieve Him when we ignore His presence. As Jesus once said, while He was with us, He kept us in the Father’s name, guarded us, and not one true believer has been lost.

Prayer thought: Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ name, daily cleanse my heart, so it will be a more desirable dwelling place for the Holy Spirit to live and direct activities of my life. Amen.
