We Can Trust Him On Our Journey

I’ll never forget climbing the steep, rocky mountainsides of Petra… on a mule!! If you’re unfamiliar, Petra is an ancient city in Jordan that dates back to 300BC.  It is one of the world’s wonders as it used to be a thriving civilization.  Everything there is carved in rocks that are about 600ft tall.  Houses, temples, amphitheaters are all carved into rocks.  Perhaps the most recognizable site in Petra is The Treasury.  Most of you have probably seen this in the movie “Indiana Jones.”   The treasury is 130 ft tall, and the rocks surrounding The Treasury are about 600 feet tall.  It is breathtaking.

It’s also why I was so scared when a Beaudoin shepherd approached us and asked if we wanted to ride on a donkey to the top of the mountain that oversees The Treasury.  Despite the fear, we agreed to follow him.   The ride was scary, steep, and unfamiliar. In fact, I was so overcome with fear that I wanted to give up at every plateau.  At one point, I asked the guide to turn around.  He told me to trust him. In fact, his exact words were, “trust me, lady!”

I’m so glad I trusted him and kept going because we had an incredible, breathtaking view when we reached the top. The beautiful perspective from the top was worth every hard, uncertain step. What mountain are you climbing right now? A broken relationship? Health? Anxiety? Work? School? Parenting? Maybe it’s literally a pile of laundry on your floor and dirty dishes in your sink… Whatever your mountain is, keep climbing, my friends!  Even if you’re climbing one scared step at a time, don’t give up because it will be worth it!

God is with you, and he has more in store for you than you can ever imagine.  Cling to James 1:1-4 today, it says,  “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”  If you find yourself climbing a mountain today, my prayer is that you trust HIM, lady!
