We Can Trust Him When We Are Scared

As I stepped out on my favorite dock, I noticed that the water was higher than usual.  I felt uneasy as I walked to the edge because I’d never been on it with that deep water before.  I knew that if the water rose much higher, the dock could easily be emerged and flooded.  Do you ever feel like that in life sometimes?  I sure do, especially right now.  I don’t know why we’re called to the deep waters sometimes, and I don’t know why there are scary and unpredictable storms in life.  This reminds me of Peter walking on water found in Matthew 14:22-33.  I often think of how he must have felt when Jesus asked him to do the impossible… walk on water!!  Talk about rising water…. yikes.   When Peter stepped out of the boat and onto the water, he focused on the storm instead of Jesus.  That caused him to be scared, weak, and unable to do it.  I love what happens next, though- when Peter was scared, he cried out to Jesus.  Guess what?

Matthew 14:31 says, “Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

Do you know what this means?  This means that Jesus heard Peter, and Jesus reached out his hand and caught Peter.  Friends, he will catch you too.   Let’s use this reminder to realign our focus.   My prayer for you today is that you don’t forget to cry out to him when you’re scared. My prayer is that you remember that he is your strength when you are weak and when you start to sink, he will reach out his mighty hand to catch you.
