We were watching an episode of “I Shouldn’t Be Alive” last night. A young couple had decided to rent a lodge and go on a hike in the rain forest. They chose the longest hike and began by following the signs along the way. But they got so caught up in the scenery and wildlife of the area that they didn’t notice when they left the trail.
Then to add insult to injury, they made the decision to travel by compass even farther away from the lodge. They ended up spending several nights in the treacherous jungle staying on course to go deeper into the rainforest. They never turned around to go in the opposite direction which would have taken them right back to their shelter.
Oh beloved, we shouldn’t be alive. If it weren’t for Jesus, we’d have no life at all. Not one of us. And following Him, staying on the right path, means that we must pay close attention to where we are going. The whole world is off the path. And many people go deeper and deeper into the jungle of life. It’s scary what all can capture our attention and lure us away from the Lord’s path.
But you beloved, you are going to keep on following God. When you stray, you know it’s time to stop, drop and roll – stop where you are headed, drop to your knees and roll your decisions back to the Lord. He will never turn you down when you ask for help – no matter how far you have gone the wrong way. As long as you are alive, you have an option to call upon the Lord. The enemy of your soul wants you to think you’ve gone too far or it’s too late. But you know that, while all are prone to wander, you don’t want to give up the security of life blessed by Holy Spirit. And the conviction you feel when you know you’re not right is a blessing – it keeps you from wandering farther and farther away. You’re an explorer for the Lord – not a wanderer of your own self.
God loves you and He’s for you. Ask Him this morning to give you fresh insight into the trail you are on. Give Him the right to correct your direction if needs be. Thank Him that Jesus has said because He lives so shall you. And then live, follow and grow in the Light of His plan for your life!
