What Do You Want?

JAMES 4:2–7 You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us? But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

We serve a God who is able to do all things. He can give us all things but He will not help us destroy ourselves. When you have a need, how do you approach that challenge? Do you throw a fit and insist on having your own way, or do you rest in the God who has promised to take care of you?

“And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear”. Isaiah 65:24, KJV  God wants to meet your need. He is able to, but He will not enable destructive tendencies.

Why do you pray for the things you ask for? And if you do not see the supply what do you do? Don’t be like the Israelites who cried to God for years for deliverance from the Egyptians who were cruel taskmasters. Yet they forgot their suffering when they remembered the fish, cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic that ate in Egypt — the land of their suffering, the land from which they prayed to God with distressed spirits for deliverance.

God had not abandoned them. He rained food from heaven for them every day — it did not fail. Was it wrong that they wanted meat, or was it their attitude in asking?

So God gave them meat, and while they were still eating it many of them died. Numbers 11:31–34 31 Now a wind went out from the Lord and drove quail in from the sea. It scattered them up to two cubits deep all around the camp, as far as a day’s walk in any direction. 32 All that day and night and all the next day the people went out and gathered quail. No one gathered less than ten homers. Then they spread them out all around the camp. 33 But while the meat was still between their teeth and before it could be consumed, the anger of the Lord burned against the people, and he struck them with a severe plague. 34 Therefore the place was named Kibroth Hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had craved other food.

Their lust was the fuel that drove them to their end. God will not withhold any good thing from those who walk uprightly. Psalm 84:11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless

He that spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Romans 8:32

God will supply our need. He is able to make all grace abound unto us so that, having all sufficiency in all things, we may abound unto every good work 2 Corinthians 9:8

But we must trust Him and not get drawn into that life-draining cycle of satisfying the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. 1 John 2:16For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.

Receive the rest of God.

Thrive in it.

Bloom in it.

God is watching over you and He has filled your path with pleasant surprises. You can trust that He can — and He will deliver these surprises intact to you.
