Why Not Me?

Being the oldest of several siblings, when my parents told one of us kids to go outside and draw a bucket of water or get wood off the porch for the fireplace or heater and no one else made an attempt to obey the command, I felt responsible to obey the command.
Though some of God’s commands are general and for all His children, I am glad God designates which child is to obey a specific command. Some commands may not be easy to obey, and sometimes I may question in my mind why He selected me to suffer or bear a burden, or fulfill a difficult assignment, but can know the command was for me and I am responsible to my Father to obey.
And why not me? I am one of many children and He loves me no more or less than His other children. That does not mean I don’t have a special place in His heart, but that He has no favorites.

The following scriptures verify this truth:

Deuteronomy 10: 17 “For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes.

Also we have these words:

2 Chronicles 19: 7 “Now let the fear of the Lord be upon you. Judge carefully for with the Lord, our God, there is no injustice, partiality, or bribery.”

Even teachers of the law and chief priests who sent spies to scrutinize Jesus and His work admitted He taught what was right and that He showed no partiality, but taught the way of the Lord in accordance with the truth.

Luke 20: 20-22 Keeping a close watch on him, they sent spies, who pretended to be sincere. They hoped to catch Jesus in something he said, so that they might hand him over to the power and authority of the governor.  So the spies questioned him: “Teacher, we know that you speak and teach what is right, and that you do not show partiality but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth.  Is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”

Therefore, when God gives me a specific command, I can know He has selected me for that task. And though I may not always enjoy performing the task, I know He loves me and won’t tell me to do anything not essential to my Christian maturity.

Father, help me have attentive ears and a willing mind, and always be ready to perform any deed You ask me to perform. Thank You for loving me and allowing Jesus to make all my blessings possible. In His Name I pray. Amen.
