How many of us have said words before thinking and then been like… Oops. Words once said cannot be taken back. Many of us do not realize how much power there is in our words. God says:
“There is death and life in the power of the tongue.” Proverbs 18: 21.
Think about it. Do we really realize how much power there is in our words and in God’s Word? When Jesus was praying to the Father He said
‘Sanctify them by Your Word for Your Word is truth.’ John 17: 17.
King David inspired by the Holy Spirit wrote
“Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119: 105
In Ephesians 6: 17, we see that the only offensive weapon we are given is the ‘sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God’. We are reminded time and time again that we live in a sinful world and we will have temptation and troubles but that God has overcome the world, John 16: 13. In Ephesians 6: 10-18 we are told to stand firm using all the weapons that God has given us to combat the devil and his tactics.
As my Sunday School teacher said ‘this Word is the most powerful tool we as Christians have.’ We need to personalize it and make it ours. We need to find all the promises that God has given us and write them out and then SPEAK it over our circumstances because God’s Word will never return void, but it will accomplish what He has purposed it to do.
Paul charges us to allow God to transform us by renewing our minds daily. Every problem there ever was or will be will have its answer within the pages of the Bible. We must just read and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal what the answers are and He will guide us to them.
“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it,” Isaiah 55: 11.
His Word was written for US!! God gave us his Holy, Inspired, Inerrant Word so that we not be left in the dark trying to muddle through this life but so that we through Him and the power of the Holy Spirit we can have abundant life.
John 10: 10. “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
When Jesus Himself was tempted in Matthew 4, and the devil came against Him tempting Him, He always came back with “It is written” and then quoted the Bible. If He who was GOD, quoted the Bible how much more should we as His children do that? He could have said Satan be gone and he would have had to flee because the devil is under the authority of Jesus just as all of us are, Matthew 28: 18. In fact every single thing ever created is under His control. Remember the wind and the waves stopped when He said “peace be still” Mark 4: 39. Jesus also said if He wanted them to the rocks and hills would cry out praises to Him, Luke 19: 40.
Lastly we not only need to read the Word and speak it over ourselves but we need to do this over and with our children as well. They come in contact with things that we never had to deal with as kids and if we don’t teach them God’s Word as we are commanded to do in Deut. 6: 5-7 then the world will teach them the opposite. TV shows, video games and just other people have such a huge influence on our children that we need to be pouring God’s Word into them. I admit I fall short in this area so much. We do quote specific verses every night but I need to be feeding him more. For example, if the only thing he ate was PB&J every night, he would not get the nutrients he needs. There is so much in the Word to learn no one can ever learn it all, it is the Living Word because it reveals new things all the time. If we only feed ourselves on Sunday and Wed, we would all be super skinny and under nourished. How many of us are spiritually under nourished? I was for years and years, and I have not yet learned all I need to know but I am striving to do better daily.
My prayer is for me and my family is that we fall so in love with God that we will not want to miss a day, an appointment with Jesus and we will come to love His Word more and more each day.
