Your True Identity

As I look on the walls where my computer sits this morning I see old photos of grandparents, both Danny’s and mine, at least one set for each of us.  These are wedding portraits of Beene’s and Freeman’s.  There are definite family features with both sets of people. It’s uncanny how my mother and her siblings all resemble their father especially. We don’t have a nice wall portrait of the Decker grandparents, nor do we have one of my Warren grandparents. But family resemblance is there I’m sure.

Oh beloved, you may not have your grandfather’s eyes or your grandmother’s features, but you don’t have to look back to ancestors to find your true identity.  Your life is hidden in Christ and the Word of God shows that you’ve inherited great and wonderful things from Him.  It also tells you that you were fearfully and wonderfully made.  You are just the right height and you have all the right stuff to live a life of blessing and honor.  God says He knew you before you were even formed in your mother’s womb.  He says He called you out of darkness into the light.  He says you are chosen, royal, holy, peculiar – unique, special, distinctive.  You aren’t an accident nor are you an afterthought. Everything about you that matters to the Lord says flawless and beautiful.  It doesn’t matter what you inherited from your biological family background, you have a supernatural inheritance that cannot be changed including your inheritance of the future glory of God in heaven.

He says stop worrying about what you can’t change. Start embracing yourself the way He sees you. God is not a creator of mistakes nor does He form mishaps.  Even if you wish you were born different, God says you are His and He delights in you.  Because He formed you, His plan for you is perfect.  Because His plan for you is perfect you can embrace who you really are and begin to love yourself.  True beauty is the depth of character that shows the heart of Christ – as you learn to trust Him, abide in Him, go to Him for everything and live for Him alone, He will shine out of you and cause others to admire Christ in you, the hope of glory!

God loves you and He’s for you – just the way you are, just because God Is Love!  Rejoice in this fact, rejoice in the you God loves and let yourself be loved.  Run to Him this morning and thank Him for His perfect ways – including creating you and giving you new life. And live, beloved, in the Light of what He says about you!

Psalm 12: 6 “The words of the LORD are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace, like gold purified sevenfold.”

Psalm 139: 13-14 “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well.”

Song of Solomon 4: 7   “You are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you.”

Psalm 92: 4 “You thrill me, LORD, with all You have done for me! I sing for joy because of what You have done.”

Psalm 119: 73 “Your hands have made me and fashioned me; give me understanding to learn Your commandments.”
