Finding Your Armor: Overcoming Anxiety

Do you ever have those days, or weeks, that so much is going on that you just feel like you’re drowning in it all? Do you feel so overwhelmed by everything that you can barely function correctly?

Well, that was me this past week. I scrambled trying to find encouragement and empowerment and inspiring words for this week’s post because, quite honestly, I was not feeling very empowered myself.

1 Peter 5:7-8 tells us to cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. “Be sober minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. “ In other words, give it all to God. If not, you’ll get upset and discouraged and overwhelmed and that’s where satan can easily find his way in.

But then, I noticed something else about this scripture. It states that the devil prowls around like a “roaring” lion. A roar is not silent This tells me that we do have a warning. Maybe that is where our anxiety comes in. So many times we give in to that anxiety because we can’t see past it. I don’t know about you, but I certainly have no intention of being devoured by the enemy, so I ampreparing for battle.

Ephesians 6:11 tells us to “put on the whole armor of God, so that we may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Your “armor” is found in the Word. Pick up your bible and read. Get on your knees and pray. The Lord knows your heart, but he wants you to bring it to him.

Sometimes, it’s hard to find the words, but in those times you can rely on the Holy Spirit to intervene for you, but you have to initiate the conversation. God will never leave us, but he also, will never force himself on us. It is up to us to make that decision. Are you ready? He is waiting for you and He loves you so much. Nothing you have ever done will change that.

I was away from the Lord for several years because I was so angry with Him. I was in a place I did not belong and didn’t know how to escape. But, little by little, my heart began to return to the Lord and finally, I got on my knees. I prayed for so long that night, that I actually fell asleep praying and crying. I didn’t know what to say to begin with so I just said something like, “God, I hope you can hear me. I don’t know if you still love me after all I have done, but if you do, I really need your help.” I surrendered it all to Him that night.

The next morning, I got my answer, because that was the day that my new life began. He does love me! Just like he loves you. Begin your new life today.

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9
