My husband and I have a running “funny” between us. It’s actually between more than just the two of us anymore because I’ve shared it with friends. It’s like this for instance: He tells me to go left but I am absolutely sure we should go right. Now I can argue that he’s wrong and I’m right, but the fact is and here’s the long running “funny” – he’s always right. Now listen y’all when it comes to directions I’m turned around coming out of the doctor’s office.
And then today. Had lunch with a friend. She wanted to buy my lunch. I said no, let me get it. And I proceeded to not be able to find my card. Not at all. Nowhere. Bless her, she had wanted to buy my lunch anyway. I texted him and asked if he had my card. Nope it’s in your purse. You picked it up with your phone. To which I am absolutely positive that he’s wrong. Except that, after one more look, I did indeed find it right where he said it was – in my purse.
I don’t know about y’all, but there have been situations where I wondered about God’s course. He surely didn’t understand the situation. He’s given me directions, but me, being a directionally challenged person, wants clarification at the least. I don’t mind obeying, but I want to know for sure and I want Him to answer those prayers, the deep groanings of my heart that are too serious to share anywhere else. And us? Well we can’t always be trusted can we? Not when the emotions want to win over the spirit. Not when we are tired of waiting. Not when we think we might know something God doesn’t know. Lord, help us. We are going to mess up if You don’t speak clearly to us. But when we trust You and keep our hands off of the problem that we cannot fix or follow you even when we aren’t sure where you are taking us, You will take are of it all and us won’t You.
Oh beloved, I’m seriously thankful that my husband knows his directions as well as his stuff. But more than that, I’m thankful that God knows what He is doing even when I’m asleep, alone, undone, worried, fearful, over confident and everything else. Even when I don’t know what He’s doing. You and I must learn that we have to trust God first, second and third for everything. As you learn to hand Him the reins of your life He will bless you and honor your decision to trust Him. He isn’t a grievous tyrant trying to manipulate or force you. He just knows best. God doesn’t boss you, but He wants supreme authority in your life. And it’s for your best. When He says turn right do it quickly. When He says keep quiet, don’t say a word. And when you’re not sure what He’s saying, wait, wait, wait. Your destiny is fulfilled as you follow Him with all of your heart for all of your days.
God, you love us and you’re for us. We need You more than anything this world has. We need You more than we need to be right, secure, sure, positive and strong. I’m going to run to Him this morning and thank Him again that He is loyal faithful and true. Why don’t you as well? And thank Him for this wonderful life of faith as you walk in His ways no matter what else you may want.
