“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13
There are times we believe we can go it alone. “I’ve got this, God,” we say. Life is going well and we think we don’t need God. We put God on a shelf and take Him down when we have a laundry list of ‘I wants’. The funny thing is that God isn’t really on that shelf. He is with us always; he never leaves us. How it must hurt him when we try to cope on our own and really mess things up. How much better the outcome would be if we would only include God from the start, not just after we fail.
God is faithful and He wants us to feel loved, to feel important, and to have a purpose. When we feel distant from God, it is we, not God who is absent from the relationship. In order to experience the faithful love that only our Creator can bring, we need to quiet the noise in our lives, schedule quiet time into our manic schedules, and listen to God. He knows and wants what is best for us because he loves us. He wants us to be happy and fulfilled, not constantly searching for something we will never find without knowing Him. After all, God sent his only Son to earth to make a path for us to Heaven. I can’t imagine the pain such a sacrifice would cause. God held nothing back in order to make a way for us in Heaven. Now, that is love.
God’s perfect example of love should guide our actions toward our fellow man. What a wonderful world it would be if everyone practiced the same kind of love our Father has for us.
Psalm 52:8
“But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love forever and ever.” NIV
Loving God, show us how to love as you do. Open our eyes to your faithfulness and be our guide in all that we do. AMEN
