We have been attending a particular motorcycle swap meet for many years. This year we went with one of our daughters and son in love. We had a great time and since it was misty raining it was especially nice to let someone else worry about the driving. There was only one problem – their pickup is so tall that it was like climbing Mt. Everest every time we got in. Not a problem for Danny but wow, it wasn’t so easy for me. Each time it got a little harder. Finally, I was just about done in with the climb when it was time to go home. My leg and hip were so sore from those climbs up as well as the drop down. When I went to bed last night I wasn’t sure I could ever do that again.
But as I woke up this morning everything was fine. No more soreness. Today I am ready to ride again. What seemed like too hard an ordeal has changed into do-able. Evidently, a good night’s rest from the climbing was all I needed.
Oh beloved, you might not be climbing in and out of a pickup truck. But you might be weary of the climb of faith. You have faced this mountain over and over again. And now you’re tired. Just tired of it all. You’ve prayed and hoped and wished and produced. Yet the soreness of waiting has now taken over. Will God answer? Does God care? Where is He when it’s so very difficult?
God wants you to now this morning that rest is your best weapon against weariness. When you rest in Him you find a strength beyond the natural. High mountains of adversity don’t seem so hurtful. Valleys of weeping become meadows of joy. He says let Me help you make it. I will lift you up and I will soothe your heart and mind. Lay all your burdens aside and reach for My hand. He goes on to tell His own – I will never let go of you. Even when you are worn out and cannot hang on, I will securely hold you. As you rest in Me, you will find ways to handle the issues you fac. Stop and approach this mountain again from the place of rest. God’s Word is your guide book for overcoming every obstacle and high mountain you must climb. This is your authority – not your own power or physical ability – but rather the power of the Word over your circumstances. You were made for overcoming – by resting, by rising up, by using the Lord’s strength to make it all the way.
God loves you and He’s for you. Take a rest in Him and with Him this morning before you start this day’s journey. It’s for God’s glory and by His power. And remember the more intimate your life is hidden in Him, the more able you’ll be to climb on as you live in the Light of His wisdom, power and love!
Isaiah 40: 31 But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] Will gain new strength and renew their power; They will lift up their wings [and rise up close to God] like eagles [rising toward the sun]; They will run and not become weary, They will walk and not grow tired.
